Check eligibility for DWP's new cost of living payments to UK households

UK households struggling with the cost of essentials this winter are set to receive living cost payments of up to £250. This financial aid is part of the government's Household Support Fund, which is allocated to local councils nationwide by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).

The fund, worth a substantial £421million, is designed to assist families and vulnerable individuals in covering costs such as energy bills, food, and other essential items during the colder months. Each local council independently determines how to distribute their share of the fund, meaning eligibility criteria may vary depending on your location.

For instance, Birmingham households have been able to apply for support of up to £250 per household in voucher form to help cover gas, electricity, and food costs. Meanwhile, Leeds residents who receive Council Tax Support can obtain a payment of £40, and some pensioner households can receive £150.

The DWP has indicated that there might also be variations in who receives the money and whether or how you need to apply for the assistance.
