Martin Lewis urges parents 'who have children at university' to act now
by James Rodger, https://www.facebook.com/jamesrodgerjournalist · Birmingham LiveMartin Lewis has urged parents with children at university to act now and get in touch with him. The BBC Sounds podcast host and ITV regular spoke out on Twitter, now X, with a call-out and come-on for questions for his weekly podcast.
Mr Lewis asked: "Are you (or ur child) at or going to university and worried due to finances? If uv questions about student loans, how they work, how u repay including the English tution fee & maintenance loan rise just ask here... I'm doing my podcast on it this week and want to cover what you need to know."
He said: "I'm often rammed with questions on student finance, including wider issues like "who repays if the student doesn't", and "should I pay more if i can" - so if you normally repay with things like that, the post below is your chance to ask so I can answer/explain/annoy :)"

In reply, a fan asked: "Why are student loans “ 9% Graduate Tax” managed by a limited company? Paying enormous salaries to directors. Wasting taxpayers money! Rather lend money at Bank of England interest rates and students pay back whatever they lend. Compound interest will burden graduates."
A second typed: "How does financing work for extra support for students with additional needs ie dyslexia and adhd? We are paying for the tuition to avoid interest charges. Is additional support / software etc funded or provided by the university or would we need to cover these costs too please."
"More about impact. How will having student debt impact my daughter’s credit history/ability to get credit in future? Also NHS charges Q. Keep seeing students being refused help for charges using LIS even with just student loans & capital <£16k??" another asked.
Another posted: "Hi. Single mother of twins. No father (donor). Is there anything in the system to support this do you know? Mine both starting in Sept 25 Manchester/Bristol. Would really appreciate insight/advice. Am a full time teacher."
