New HMRC charges for petrol, diesel and electric cars from December 1 - full list
by Oscar Fisher, James Rodger · Derbyshire LiveMotorists across the country, including petrol, diesel and electric car drivers, have been issued an urgent warning about new HMRC costs set to launch this week. Under the new Labour Party government, HMRC charges for road users will undergo significant changes.
The new advisory fuel rates, released by HM Revenue and Customers, are due to be rolled out on Sunday, December 1. These rates are reviewed quarterly on March 1, June 1, September 1, and finally, before Christmas, on December 1.
The mean miles per gallon (MPG) is derived from manufacturers' data, considering annual sales to businesses. For liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), the MPG used is 20% lower than for petrol due to its lower volumetric energy density.
The 'rates per mile' calculated in these tables are shown rounded to one decimal place, but the final advisory fuel rates are rounded to the nearest whole penny. Rates per mile ending in 0.5 are rounded down to the nearest whole penny for the advisory fuel rate when the underlying unrounded figure ends in a number less than 0.5.

When the underlying unrounded figure ends in a number greater than 0.5, it is rounded up to the nearest whole penny. The most recent petrol and diesel prices are sourced from the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ), while the LPG (UK average) is taken from the Automobile Association website.
The 'pence per kilowatt hour' cost, which is published annually by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, is adjusted according to the quarterly Office for National Statistics' Consumer Prices Index for electricity to account for quarterly price variations.
