Well-known Derby city centre store closes down after 30 years of trading

A well-known home appliance store in Derby city centre has announced its closure, despite recently celebrating its 30th birthday at the end of October. The AGA Shop in Queen Street had been providing city residents with quality cookers since 1994.

Just over two weeks after the store celebrated the milestone, it was then announced it would be permanently closing its doors on November 16. A spokesperson for the store put out a statement on its website, which reads: "We regret to inform you that this store is now permanently closed."

However no further information has been released regarding the closure, with the reasons remaining unknown as to why the store decided to wind up their operations in Derby. Previously, the Cathedral Quarter store was celebrated by the BID with an article that advertised their giveaways and exclusive offers to mark turning 30.

Customers were invited to celebrate with complimentary drinks and cakes as well as celebratory deals for customers to enjoy while the store marked the occasion. When the store celebrated the milestone, then store manager Laura Dunn said: “We are incredibly proud to have been a part of the Derby community for 30 years. we’ve remained committed to offering the highest level of service and expertise, and we couldn’t have done it without the support of our loyal customers.”

The Cathedral Quarter Derby website described the business as a "beloved store- a fixture in the local community." While the shop did mainly sell cookers, they also offered customers repairs as well as expertise on the subject.
