Construction supervisor fined $30,000 for serious workplace injury

A man overseeing a Calgary construction site has been ordered to pay a $30,000 fine after pleading guilty to a safety violation that left a worker injured.

The incident occurred Dec. 10, 2021 when a worker on roof removed plywood covering an opening and fell through the space, plunging 4.5 metres, suffering serious injuries.

Supervisor Jeffrey Gross pleaded guilty to  failing to take all precautions necessary to protect the health and safety of a worker and was sentenced in Calgary Court of Justice on Sept. 24.
