Daily Mail journalist honoured for expose of a cash for care jobs scam

by · Mail Online

The Daily Mail’s exposé of a cash for care jobs scam has been recognised with a prestigious award for the journalist who spearheaded the six-month undercover investigation.

Isaan Khan’s painstaking work revealed how rogue recruiters were making millions exploiting relaxed new visa laws to charge migrants illegal ‘work finder fees’ of up to £20,000 to secure care home jobs.

The scam left the ‘vulnerable looking after the vulnerable’ with unqualified staff caring for the elderly in the under-strain sector.

And now Khan’s work on the probe – alongside his exclusive interview with runner Zola Budd and an emotive piece on the Palestinian football team – has been rewarded after he was crowned Young Journalist of the Year at the Society of Editor’s Media Freedom Awards.

Judges said Khan was a ‘worthy winner in a hard-fought category for a complex and hard-hitting investigation which showcased a wide range of journalistic skills’.

It was an unprecedented second win in a row for Khan who took the same award last year for a wide-ranging entry including a devastating exposé of the Azeem Rafiq racism scandal at Yorkshire County Cricket Club.
