For those living on Britain's waterways, a canal boat is a ticket to a simpler life - away from the stress of bustling towns and cities.

However, canal boat vlogger Nesha has shared three warnings to anyone thinking of making the drastic change to their pace of life.

Posting to her YouTube channel under the handle Driftwood Folk, where she has over 12,000 subscribers, Nesha shared five warnings for anyone looking to purchase a canal boat or narrowboat.

Read on below for her three points to take into consideration if you are thinking of swapping a conventional lifestyle for that of a canal dweller.

Nesha shared three warnings to anyone thinking of making the drastic change to their pace of life

Sharing her first tip, Nesha warned that, narrowboats can be far more expensive initially than many people realise.

Adding that they also cost a hefty chunk of money to maintain, she advised that anyone wanting to move onto a canal boal should be prepared to spend between £35,000 and £70,000.

Moving on to her next tip, Nesha delved into the reasoning behind why canal boats can be expensive to maintain.

She said: 'This is because every [kind of work] you get done on a boat is classed as a specialist job, but many tradespeople don't like working on boats'.

'You'll be more likely to get work done on the boat at a boat yard. The problem is that it tends to be quite pricey, especially you're getting work done like welding'.

'When you live in a metal tube, it's very likely that you will get some welding done at some point'.

Sticking with the theme of maintenance for her next piece of advice, Nesha advised that the sheer amount of maintenance required to keep a canal boat in good working order can be more time consuming than you think.

She noted: 'Even though it's portrayed as a simple life - which it can be to some degree -  there is a lot of maintenance involved

'It isn't just a case of living a slow, simple life and never having to do much. There is always something to do on a boat'.

Her penultimate tip for anyone looking to live on a canal boat is to be aware of the limited space that you will have in comparison to a more traditional home.

She warned: 'If you are someone who really likes their own space and you live with a partner or you have children, you might find living on a canal boat a bit difficult because space is very limited'.

This led her to share her final tip, which centred around the restrictions coupled with a larger boat.

Nesha stated: 'The problem is that when you have a boat that is 70ft or longer, you can to certain parts of a canal.

'The best kind of size to be able to get through all the locks would be anything between 40ft and 50ft'.
