RGV Responds to FIRs: 'Police Didn't Even Enter My Office'
by Venkat · greatandhra.comAce filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma (RGV) has responded to the FIRs filed against him in four districts of Andhra Pradesh, denying allegations that he is absconding.
Speaking out against the media reports, RGV stated he is in Hyderabad, busy with his film work, and clarified that even the Chennai police were reportedly instructed to track him down under the false claim that he was absconding.
In a detailed post titled "My take on my case" on X (formerly Twitter), Varma asserted that the police never entered his office nor approached him for an arrest.
“If they wanted to arrest me, why didn’t they come to my office?” he questioned.
RGV also expressed surprise over the sudden concern regarding memes he posted nearly a year ago.
The FIRs against the director pertain to his social media posts during the promotional campaign of his film Vyooham, which depicts the formation of the YSR Congress Party by former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy and the events leading to it after the demise of his father, late Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, in a helicopter crash.
The complaints object to morphed images posted by RGV that allegedly portrayed Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Nara Lokesh, and Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan in a derogatory manner.
Varma suggested that the multiple FIRs filed against him at once are part of a larger conspiracy.
He defended his social media activity, arguing that the digital age provides individuals with greater freedom of expression.
“If memes are enough to file cases, half the country would be facing legal battles,” he remarked.
RGV explained that he switched off his phone to avoid constant calls from the media and others, which were disrupting his work.
He accused the media of fabricating stories about his alleged absconding and urged the public not to believe such reports.
Varma remains defiant, asserting that these allegations will not deter him from his creative pursuits.
