Glastonbury fans convinced music legend let slip they're next headliner for 2025 festival

Glastonbury enthusiasts believe they've cracked the code on who the next headliner for the upcoming festival will be. It's been 16 years since Neil Young's unforgettable headline performance on the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury.

Insiders have hinted that the 'Heart Of Gold' singer is keen to return to Worthy Farm, joining the likes of Sir Rod Stewart and Nile Rodgers in the star-studded line-up. Recently, Neil revealed he was revising plans for a European tour, favouring outdoor gigs over indoor ones due to health concerns.

On his website, Neil wrote: "Indoor concerts could be too risky for health reasons and we don't want to have to cancel any concerts for health reasons next summer."

From next spring, Neil and The Chrome Hearts plan to perform at large outdoor venues across Europe and the UK. In recent days, eagle-eyed fans noticed an update on Neil's website featuring a ticket from Glastonbury 2009.

The Glasto Thing account shared a screenshot of this update on Twitter (X) on Sunday, writing: "There's a bit of a (for me) too good to be true rumour floating about. Just to throw a little petrol on the flames, Neil Young has put his Glastonbury 2009 set up on his website. Add that to him saying he's doing dates in Europe next year, plus a few other little bits and..", reports the Mirror.

Neil's "timeline" featured a new addition - a letter from a fan who revealed they had reunited with their ex during Neil's headline slot. The show, which received five-star reviews from critics, saw Neil delivering a set filled with classics such as Cinnamon Girl, Down By The River and Rockin' In The Free World.

A source spoke to The Sun about the rumours, claiming that "Glastonbury is on the cards" and "his team are keen to get him on the line-up". "With Sir Rod Stewart confirmed to play, if Emily Eavis can get Neil on board too there would be two huge legends on the line up. Stevie Wonder is also in the mix for this year as well as The 1975," the insider said.

"Glastonbury appears to be leaning back into its roots of rock, and if they can secure Neil it would be an amazing addition to what is already shaping up to be an incredible line up."

Last week, Sir Rod Stewart expressed his readiness to "more than able to take the stage again to pleasure and titillate" as he was announced for the legends slot at Glastonbury next year. The 79 year old is the first musical act to be confirmed for the 2025 festival at Worthy Farm, before it takes a fallow year in 2026.

Sir Rod took to Instagram to announce: "I'm absolutely thrilled to announce that I'll be playing @glastofest 2025! After all these years, I'm proud and ready and more than able to take the stage again to pleasure and titillate my friends at Glastonbury in June. I'll see you there! ."

Sir Rod previously headlined Glastonbury in 2002, delivering a memorable performance on Sunday night to close out the festival.

Festival organiser Emily Eavis also expressed her excitement on Instagram, stating: "Bringing Sir Rod Stewart back for the Sunday afternoon slot on the Pyramid stage is everything we could wish for."

She further added: "What a way to bow out with the final legends slot before we take a fallow year. We cannot wait! ."
