Just hours after having a hip replacement, Janet Street-Porter from Loose Women has reached out with an update to her fans. The 77 year old presented a cheerful demeanour as she posted a photo from her hospital bed on Saturday afternoon, mere days post announcing her departure from the ITV programme.

She expressed, "Three hours after hip replacement-masses of strong pain relief resulted in huge smile of relief! Then the drugs wore off...but I'm walking with a trolley HOORAY XX."

Post-surgery, Janet received an outpouring of support from friends and online well-wishers. Her fellow panellist on Loose Women Katie Piper shared her delight: "So happy to see you smiling and walking already."

Interior designer Nikki Shore wished for a smooth recovery, saying: "I hope your recovery goes well, you are inspirational Janet."

Additionally, comedian Sarah Millican sent her affections: "Sending love.", reports the Express.

During Wednesday's Loose Women broadcast, Janet notified viewers that she'd be taking a considerable break from the show to focus on recuperating from her operation, candidly admitting her anxiety surrounding the surgery.

Show host Christine Lampard announced earlier in the episode that it would be Janet's "last day for a little while" due to her impending operation. "Janet, this is your last day for a little while because you are heading off for the operation, the one you have been waiting for a while," reported the Mirror.

Janet then acknowledged, "Yes, on Friday I am heading off to have a hip replacement operation at last and I can't think about anything else."

"As I'm sitting here, I'm shaking and shivering and I keep dreaming about it. I keep thinking 'what if they can't get it back together'. I am going on Friday, I'll have the operation Friday afternoon, stay in hospital for a few days then I'll really work on it at rehab so I can come back as soon as possible."

Coleen, visibly touched, said: "You know this morning when we were talking about it - it made me really sad because you always put on this tough image that nothing does your back in and at one point today you said 'I'm really scared' and I could have cried my eyes out."

Janet then admitted: "I am vulnerable and you know what it's my own fault because they told me in March to have it done but I delayed it. Then at the weekend, I had some vegetables delivered and even though I shouldn't I was on all fours planting them."

"I woke up on Sunday morning and I couldn't move and now I've really messed up the other side of my back and I had to lie-down for two days."

She continued to express her distress, adding: "I realised that I let myself get too weak and I've never been like this in my life and it's just so irritating."

In a tender moment, Janet was surprised with a gift basket, thoughtfully punctuated by a framed picture of Coleen.
