Taylor Swift makes history as she wins 10 Billboard Music Awards ahead of 35th birthday

The US pop sensation bagged 10 trophies on the night including top artist and top Billboard 200 album for 'The Tortured Poets Department', taking her total to an impressive 49 wins. "This is like the nicest early birthday present you could have given me, so thank you very much," said Swift in a pre-recorded message ahead of her 35th birthday on Friday. "I love it. It’s exactly what I wanted."
She also triumphed in categories such as top female artist, top Hot 100 artist, and top Hot 100 songwriter, awards which Swift regards as validation from her fans: "because you guys are the ones who care about our albums and come see us in concert". Swift's statement comes fresh off the heels of her epic Eras Tour conclusion on Sunday. The tour has been a staple in entertainment news for its 21-month duration.
At the same awards event, British artists also shone brightly with Dua Lipa, Coldplay, and Charli XCX all clinching major accolades. Charli XCX took home the top dance electronic artist and album for 'Brat'. Meanwhile, Dua Lipa was elated to win the top dance electronic song for her hit 'Houdini', sharing in a video message that the recognition "means the world to me”.
Coldplay, who performed their new track All My Love at the stadium during the broadcast, bagged the top rock touring artist award. "Thank you so much Billboard for giving us this award, handsome-ist old man band in the world and we’re so grateful to you all," frontman Chris Martin humorously stated in a pre-recorded speech.
SZA won top R&B artist and top R&B female artist, while Bruno Mars was named the top R&B touring artist. Shaboozey described winning top song sales artist, top selling song and top country song for his hit track A Bar Song (Tipsy) – which he performed during the ceremony – as a "dream come true".
US sensation Teddy Swims described winning the top hot 100 song and top radio song at the Billboard awards as "absolutely bonkers". He said, "Lose Control has changed my life," referring to his hit track which he performed during the show, along with the song Bad Dreams.
