Gavin and Stacey star's four-stone weight loss after making simple dietary changes

by · ChronicleLive

Fans of Ruth Jones have been struck by the actress's dramatic weight loss, known for captivating audiences in hits like Stella, Little Britain, and Gavin and Stacey. Intrigue surrounds the transformation that has seen the star slim down significantly.

Ruth attributed her success to an epiphany that struck after a holiday at the dawn of the last decade. She recalled the pivotal moment, stating: "I came back from holiday - January 2010 - and we all overdo it on holiday, don't we? Something just clicked, I felt this is now or never, I wanted to make a positive change for me and I haven't looked back."

Slated to spend months working on the script for Stella, she saw a golden chance to revamp her lifestyle. Instead of following a fad diet, Ruth adopted mindful eating habits, particularly limiting portions and being calorie-conscious to ensure she was burning more than she consumed.

Reflecting on her health journey, Ruth has shared: "It's taken me 22 months to lose 4.5 stone. Although I have done loads of diets in my time I have never done it the old-fashioned way: taking in less calories than I was using."

For sustainable results, the target was a daily intake of around 1,250 to 1,500 calories, notably lower than the typical 2,000 recommended for women. The tactic paid off, slimming down to a size 12 as mentioned by the Express, reports Surrey Live.

Emphasising consistency over perfection, Ruth advised: "Some days are better than others," adding insightfully, "But, if you think about it, there are calorie values on the back of everything - supermarket sandwiches, chocolate bars, everything."

Ruth opted for a slow and steady approach to her weight loss journey, shunning extreme dieting methods. She focused on losing weight at a pace that suited her, ensuring the transformation was sustainable.

She shared: "The main thing is that I realised I was going to have to be patient. When diets promise you things like 'lose a stone in a week' it's just not realistic. You have to make a decision that if you've got a few stones to lose (seven in my case! ) then it's going to take time."

In order to lose weight in a healthy manner, Ruth incorporated a calorie deficit strategy into her daily routine. This involves monitoring food intake and ensuring more calories are burnt than consumed.

The number of calories an individual needs can vary based on factors such as body size, genetic makeup, and level of physical activity.

The NHS provides general guidelines for daily calorie intake, stating: "Generally, the recommended daily calorie intake is 2,000 calories a day for women and 2,500 for men."
