The 'Titanic' duo made an appearance in Los Angeles
by Damian Jones · NMEKate Winslet reunited with Leonardo DiCaprio earlier this week and was nearly brought to tears after he praised in a lengthy speech.
The Titanic duo appeared at a special screening of her latest movie Lee at the Harmony Gold theatre in Los Angeles earlier this week.
In the biographical film, which hit cinemas in September, Winslet plays the legendary World War II photographer Lee Miller. Marion Cotillard, Andrea Riseborough, Andy Samberg and Alexander Skarsgard co-star.
DiCaprio took to the stage to introduce Winslet who he heaped praise on. “Kate Winslet has dedicated herself to the film and to honouring Lee’s legacy for over the course of nine years,” he said. “I remember her speaking about this to me personally. This has been a massive passion project for her, and it’s a journey that speaks to the depth of Kate’s passion and her dedication to telling stories that need to be remembered.”
He added: “Kate, my dear friend, your work in this film has been nothing short of transformative. I continue to be awestruck, I continue to admire your strength, your integrity, your talent, and your passion to every single project that you create. So without further ado, one of the great talents of my generation, the one and only Kate Winslet.”
As Winslet approached the stage, she was visibly emotional. “I can’t even look at Leo now or else I’ll cry,” she said.

“I can’t tell you what it means to me. Making this film for me was really about people showing up with good grace and being willing to support me telling this story, a story that could have been hidden from view forever.”
Elsewhere, Winslet recently recalled her “messy” experience of kissing DiCaprio in Titanic, admitting it “was not all it’s cracked up to be”.
Talking about the iconic “I’m Flying” scene from the 1997 Oscar-winning film, Winslet explained how the vasts amount of makeup on both actors made for an unpleasant, albeit amusing, kissing experience.
“My god, he’s quite the romancer, isn’t he? No wonder every young girl in the world wanted to be kissed by Leonardo DiCaprio,” Winslet joked, before adding: “It was not all it’s cracked up to be.”
She continued: “We kept doing this kiss, and I’ve got a lot of pale makeup on and I would have to do our makeup checks — on both of us, between takes — and I would end up looking as though I’d been sucking a caramel chocolate bar after each take because his makeup would come off on me.”
