‘Minecraft’ fan spends 1000 hours recreating The Louvre

“Which one is the original and which one is the game?”

A Minecraft player has shared their epic recreation of The Louvre, claiming it took them 1000 hours to create.

Released in 2011, Minecraft is an online sandbox game that allows players to create their own fun. There are a number of different game modes including Survival, which involves resource management, shelter building and fighting off different enemies. However there’s also the less intense Creative mode, which removes those survival elements.

Using the Creative mode, Reddit user VarunaMC recreated France’s national art museum The Louvre. Sharing the project, they wrote: “I spent over 1000 hours recreating The Louvre in Minecraft

“Damn this is stunning,” wrote one fan. “If you zoom in real close, you can see the individual blocks. Insane,” said another while a third asked: “Which one is the original and which one is the game?

“Did you add a Da Vinci Code Easter egg underneath,” asked another fan. Defending the time VarunaMC spent on the project, one fan said: “It is a beautiful building and recreating beauty can have its own reward”.  Another speculated that it was done “for the challenge, entertainment and satisfaction of having created something. Probably.”

“Now what will you do,” asked one Minecraft player. “Now he can finally play the game,” replied another.

However others have pointed out that rather than being the work of one dedicated Minecraft player, VarunaMC is a professional studio that uses the game to create “experiences for education and entertainment.” According to their website, the studio is “comprised of over 44 talented architects, developers and event planners from over 14 countries.” Previous projects include massive gothic fantasy map Nomport, the medieval city of Hythe and the Atlantis-inspired Sargonia.

In other news, the second chapter of Arcane’s final season has arrived on Netflix – and fans are reeling over how it ended: “I’m rocking back and forth in a dark room because I was too in shock to turn the tv off while the credits were rolling.”
