‘Fortnite’s throwback game mode is here to stay
‘Fortnite OG’ will be available permanently from December
by Ali Shutler · NMEThrowback Fortnite OG mode will become a permanent addition to the battle royale game from next month.
Last November, Fortnite launched the nostalgia-inducing OG game mode, which featured a number of classic maps, characters and weapons from the first season. The launch led to “the biggest day in Fortnite’s history” with over 44 million players logging on to play at the start of the month-long event.
Fortnite OG was removed in December but is now set to make a permanent return. “OG is coming BACK and is here to stay,” read the surprise announcement. “Relive Battle Royale from the start and explore the OG map, collect OG loot, and relive OG seasons.” It’s rumoured that the first 10 seasons of Fortnite, which were released in 2017 and made up chapter one of the game, will be included as part of OG.
Fortnite OG will launch December 6 and it looks like it will be popular. “I’m never leaving my computer when this is out,” wrote one fan on X. “Now if I am not enjoying the current chapter/season then I can just hop on to the OG. This is perfect,” said another player on Reddit. “That’s what I’m saying, they made the whole game twice as immortal now. If you don’t like a season, you have the old reliable there,” replied a third.
“It will never actually be OG though because everyone knows how to build insanely well now. True OG was a magical experience where people would actually build and defend forts and no one knew wtf was going on half the time. This is neat though and I’m glad Fortnite keeps everything fresh,” wrote another fan.
Fortnite is currently in the midst of a throwback, remixed take on Chapter 2 which features collaborations with Eminem, Ice Spice, Juice WRLD and Snoop Dogg. “Getting the chance to come to the game and remix the chapter two map is unreal. It’s exciting to be a part of something so iconic, and I can’t wait for players to experience this new vibe. Fortnite is all about creativity and connection, and I’m hyped to bring my own spin to it!,” said Ice Spice, whose collab goes live later this week.
