Brand New reportedly reunite for intimate secret show and debut new material
"We all must allow ourselves a certain level of hypocrisy, and mine is that I am currently very unwell about this supposed Brand New secret show"
by Poppy Burton · NMEBrand New have reportedly reunited for an intimate secret show.
In 2017, frontman Jesse Lacey was accused of sexual misconduct involving a minor, and touring member Kevin Devine pulled out of their tour following the allegations. Following two more women coming forward with additional allegations, their UK tour was subsequently cancelled and their music removed from all of Spotify’s end of year ‘Wrapped’ lists.
Prior to that, the band had long hinted at an impending break-up, selling t-shirts bearing the dates “2000-2018”.
Fans of the band on Reddit have now claimed their supposed return is a “Christmas miracle” after finding images from the rumoured secret show they held at Nashville’s Inglewood Lounge last night (December 15).
“We all must allow ourselves a certain level of hypocrisy,” wrote one X/Twitter user following the news. “And mine is that I am currently very unwell about this supposed Brand New secret show.”

When another fan asked for more details, they went on to explain that Lacey was rumoured to have previously performed “a private family and friends solo show around Christmas”, adding that “this year it was today with the whole band and they played new music”.
Songs listed on Setlist.fm seem to confirm that, with two new tracks supposedly debuting last night to open the show. Check out their secret setlist below.

Elsewhere on the band’s Reddit, users claimed they found out there were “not photos or videos allowed” at the Nashville venue. “About half of us thought it was bullshit but then the sound guy from the band All Time Low posted a photo on IG story of this alleged secret gig,” one explained.
“Some things in the photo that seemed legit, was Jesse’s cab, the lights used on the ‘Sci-Fi’ tour, and a sign on stage with “no photos or video”. Along with that the photographer for brand new showed that he was in Nashville on [his] IG story.”
While some were sleuthing, others joked, with one nodding to the recent New Jersey drone sightings. “Funny how the entire state of NJ cannot provide one legitimate photo of the flying drones over their house,” they quipped. “Meanwhile we’re able to get a photo from this secret show at a private venue which didn’t allow phones.”
