Dua Lipa fan gets seven stitches after being hit by metal pyro tube at show
The concertgoer is seeking "fair compensation for [his] near-death experience" in Kuala Lumpur
by Tom Skinner · NMEA concertgoer has shared his experience of how he got injured during a recent Dua Lipa show in Kuala Lumpur, claiming that he needed seven stitches after being hit by a metal pyro tube.
The ‘Radical Optimism’ pop star played two concerts at the Axiata Arena in the Malaysian capital last weekend (November 23 and 24) as part of her current Asia tour.
Taking to Reddit, a fan claimed that he “got hit in [the] head by some pyrotechnical metal tube” at the second gig. He attached an image of himself with blood on his head and in his hair while being attended to by a medic.
The user explained in the comments that he had sustained the injury 15 minutes into Lipa’s performance, and said he then went to hospital for a CT scan. He said that he needed to have seven stitches, but had “no skull fracture”.
Earlier, he had alleged that the stadium authorities said they would only cover his medical bills. The fan then told Reddit in a subsequent post that “two guys came and start[ed] talking about compensation for hotel, concert tickets, flight”.
However, the concertgoer said he was “not ready” to discuss this and that he would contact his “embassy, lawyer and maybe [the] police”. He added: “They paid my hospital bill cause I have no such money for that.”

The fan explained that he wanted “fair compensation for [his] near-death experience”, adding: “‘Lucky’ me – this 5-7 kg tube didn’t fall by sharp side on me.”
Speaking to World Of Buzz, the gig-goer said he had purchased tickets to get as close to the stage as possible. He told the outlet that he was standing near a pyrotechnic cannon that was shooting confetti into the air.
“My wife saw it and immediately called the security for help. By then, my head wouldn’t stop bleeding, and it kept dripping all the way until we got to the ambulance backstage,” he recalled.
“They took me and another woman, who was also injured by the metal tube after it ricocheted from my head, to the hospital.”
He also alleged that the concert authorities had offered compensation to the other injured fan in the form of a sum of money. The publication noted that the Reddit user had to have a tetanus shot too.
NME has contacted representatives for both Live Nation and Dua Lipa for comment.
Earlier this month, Lipa was forced to cancel a concert in Indonesia “due to safety issues with the staging” at the venue.
In other news, the singer recently played a one-off orchestral show at the historic Royal Albert Hall in London – where she was joined by surprise guest Elton John. The gig was filmed for a forthcoming ITV special, which is due to air on Sunday December 8.
It was also recorded for a live album, titled ‘Live From Royal Albert Hall’. The 20-track record is set to arrive next Friday (December 6).
The London date marked Lipa’s first UK show since her acclaimed Glastonbury 2024 headline slot in June, and came ahead of her huge 2025 UK and Ireland stadium tour next summer. Visit here for tickets and more information.
