‘Tomb Raider’: Sophie Turner reportedly in negotiations to play Lara Croft
For an upcoming Prime Video series that's being written by Phoebe Waller-Bridge
by Surej Singh · NMEGame Of Thrones star Sophie Turner is reportedly in negotiations to lead Amazon Prime Video‘s upcoming Tomb Raider series.
In May, Amazon Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios announced that a new Tomb Raider series was in development with video game developer Crystal Dynamics. Phoebe Waller-Bridge will write and executive produce for the series.
Now, per a Deadline report, Turner is in active negotiations to lead the series as the titular hero Lara Croft. Should Turner land the role, she’ll be just the third person ever to bring the character to life in a live-action setting. Angelina Jolie first played the character in two Tomb Raider films the early 2000s, followed by Alicia Vikander in 2018.
Currently, no details surrounding Waller-Bridge’s adaptation have been revealed.
Waller-Bridge previously said of her involvement in the show: “If I could tell my teenage self this was happening I think she’d explode. Tomb Raider has been a huge part of my life and I feel incredibly privileged to be bringing it to television with such passionate collaborators. Lara Croft means a lot to me, as she does to many, and I can’t wait to go on this adventure. Bats ‘n all.”
Turner’s potential involvement in the series was first reported in October, when it was revealed that she was among one of the actors who had auditioned for the part.
