These are the worst games of 2024, according to Reddit
Players are celebrating the most disappointing moments of the year
by Ali Shutler · NMEA number of Reddit users are celebrating the worst moments of 2024 with their own “inverse” game awards.
The Golden Joystick Awards were held last weekend while next month, the winners of The Game Awards 2024 will be revealed after nominations were announced last week.
However one gamer thought it might be more entertaining to look back on the worst games of the year. “I got bored and decided to draft up some categories for the inverse of The Game Awards,” wrote LukeH118 on the Gaming subreddit. Categories include Worst Game Of The Year, Biggest Disappointment and Worst Technical Launch.
Other fans then got involved. “Biggest personal disappointment: Homeworld 3. It’s not a bad game, but the story feels insultingly bad,” said one player. “Worst Trend: Layoffs in the industry. Continuing from last year, lots of great developers were thrown under the bus and kicked out the door to make balance sheets look better when credit got crunched.”
“Can you throw in a category for ‘worst shoehorned obstacles’ so that A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead can get an award for all those random-ass red cans that were placed in the way for absolutely no reason other than to make easy shit more difficult,” said another.
“Biggest disappointment has to be Dragon’s Dogma 2. A proper DD1 sequel would have expanded on everything the first did and would be an all time RPG, but it’s essentially a remake that regresses in most ways,” wrote a third gamer with a number of others agreeing. “Just a shitty half baked remake that failed to do anything better than its predecessor.”

The troubled launch of Helldivers 2 and Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League were also candidates but it seems like disastrous shooter Concord is the runaway winner for Worst Game. The game launched in August but was shut down two weeks later. “It should win the ‘stop chasing trends’ award,” wrote one player. “It certainly earns something for being so late to the genre and trying to sell an uninspired game when the competition is free,” added another, with Concord often compared to titles like Apex Legends.
In other news, A terminally ill Borderlands fan has been able to play the “amazing” new game thanks to an online campaign.
