K-pop singer Taeyeon of Girls’ Generation has released her sixth solo mini-album ‘Letter To Myself’ and a music video for its title track.

On November 18, Taeyeon dropped the music video for ‘Letter To Myself’. The visual follows the singer as she isolates herself on a school bus. After the bus breaks down, she helps start it again and opens up to her peers, who become more welcoming after she finds her self-confidence.

I wrote a letter to myself / Clumsily writing down my feelings / The words I’ve pushed down deep / At the moment I poured them out / The voices in my head became clear,” she sings in the chorus.

In an interview with The Korea Times, Taeyeon shared that the new single represents a message to herself. “[The song] could have easily become overly serious or heavy. I wanted to present it as naturally as possible without making it cheesy or awkward,” she said.

Opening up about the process behind the mini-album, she also shared that she and longtime agency SM Entertainment had different views on which track should be the lead single. However, Taeyeon commented that she “treated each track like a standout track of the album, giving every piece equal attention and care”.

‘Letter To Myself’ comes almost a year after the Girls’ Generation leader released her fifth mini-album ‘To. X’ in 2023. “Honestly, I didn’t expect the results to turn out so great,” she said of its lead single, which has since become one of her most successful solo tracks. “I think it’s thanks to the connection and empathy it sparked with so many people.”
