Fair City star Ryan Andrews has admitted he was "terrified" when his son Rowen was born back in September.

The actor has nieces and nephews, but had never held a newborn baby until his give of two years Michaela O'Neill gave birth in Holles Street Hospital.

He joked that he still feels like he is 15 and shouldn’t be a father.

Ryan said: "The midwives in Holles Street Hospital were incredible. They put Rowen in my arms when they were looking after Michaela and I didn't move.

"I was so still, just staring at him for about ten minutes.

"I didn't know how to get to the next stage, like lifting him or picking him up. Michaela is saying here that I'm still like that."

Ryan and Michaela are a big support to each other as first time parents. And they are also careful to make time for each other and their relationship as well.

The former Dancing with the Stars finalist told VIP Magazine: "Both of us are for Rowen but what's most important is that we're both there for each other.

"I may be working all day, but she's been with him so I come home in-between scenes and give her a coffee, make sure the house is clean and ensure everything is there that they might need.

"I want to support her as best I can. We're still giving time to each other, doing all the same things that we did before he arrived so nothing in our relationship has changed in that sense.

"If anything I would say it's just been enhanced. It is about adjusting from your old life to this new one. There's definitely huge changes, but we are very lucky with Rowan; he is so happy and so placid.

"He's made this change a whole lot easier and we are very gtareful for that."

Ryan's favourite part of being a new dad is seeing Michaela with Rowen. Although, it feels weird for him because they are so young.

The Seán Cassidy actor said: "Just seeing how great she is and seeing her smile. She has always wanted to be a mam. She always wanted a baby, a little son or daughter.

"Seeing the two of them together is surreal, it’s still weird. I still feel like I’m 15 and shouldn’t have a baby!

"I’ve a totally new perspective though. I want to impact him with nothing but love, happiness and positivity in his life."
