Louis Walsh says his mother wanted him to become a priest after hating school
by Sarah Magliocco · RSVP LiveMusic management mogul Louis Walsh has shared that his mother had some very different aspirations for his career when he was a young man.
The star, who was born Michael Vincent Walsh in Kiltimagh, Co Mayo, but opting to go by Louis, says his mum Maureen was hopeful that one of her brood would go into the clergy.
Louis - from a family of nine - says he was not a fan of school, being put off by the early starts and daily masses, so priesthood was not on the cards for him either.

"I hated school. I absolutely hated school," he told Nicky Byrne on his on his Nicky Byrne HQ Podcast.
"My mother wanted me to be a priest, you see. She was hoping her eldest guy might be a priest - see I am from a family of nine."
"They sent me to boarding school then afterwards. I hated it. Can I tell you how much I hated it?" he asked.
Attending Saint Nathy's in Ballaghaderreen in County Roscommon, the routine just wasn't for him.
"I hated it. Honestly it was the worst. It was like prison to me."
"Getting up early in the morning and going to mass, doing algebra and French and Greek and all that stuff - not for me, I was useless."
"They told me not to come back. I wasn't expelled, but they told me not to come back Nicky."
Fans are excited for the upcoming episode of the podcast, which is due to be a very candid conversation.
In another clip teasing it, Nicky confronted Louis about calling singer Ronan Keating a “p***k” during his stint on Celebrity Big Brother earlier in the year.
“You very recently called him a p***k… and he’s not a p***k," said Nicky.
Louis replied: “No, I just said it. It wasn’t meant out of badness.”
He said he was “there for a reason” and producers wanted him to “say things I shouldn’t say."
Louis withdrew his remarks on Ronan after leaving the show, stating: "Ronan and I is a little bit of panto, I loved working with him.
"He was a great worker, he’s very driven, very good and he sacked me… so I don’t say great things about him but I don’t resent him and he’s a good person."
