James Kavanagh has no plans to follow his Virgin Media co-presenter Gráinne Seoige into the world of politics and he has never been approached by a political party.

However, he joked that he would love to become President of Ireland and move into Áras an Uachtaráin some day.

Gráinne is running for election for Fianna Fáil in the Galway East constituency in the next general election.

James told RSVP Live: "No, I have never been approached by anyone. But I would like to be President one day, just so I can live in the Áras.

"I am going straight past the Dáil and going for presidency, that is my aim [laughs]."

He added: "I wouldn’t say no. Definitely not. I do like keeping up with politics and being involved in that sphere. I have a lot of opinions on things, so it could be something for me down the road."

James and Gráinne, along with Síomha Ní Ruairc, are the faces of Virgin Media's dating show Grá ar an Trá.

He said: "It airs in October, Siomha and I are starting to record the voiceovers next week, which is great. We haven’t seen anything yet, I can’t wait to see how it is cut."

This season will be different with the addition of two LGBTQ+ cast members in Cian Griffin and Daniel McMahon.

James said: "They added a sliver of drama here and there that I don’t think you would get with straight people.

"I hope this is a lesson for other dating shows to show that you can have some LGBTQ+ cast members in there alongside the general cast of straight people. It does work. Hopefully, if Grá ar an Tra gets a season three we can have a couple of more gay people on the show next year."

James and his boyfriend William Murray are set to appear at Kilkenny's Savour Festival this year, which kicks off for its 16th year on the October bank holiday.

He said: "We are doing a free demo on the Saturday. We are so thrilled to be asked because we have only been in Kilkenny for a couple of months.

"The Savour festival is iconic and we are so excited to meet everyone. We are going to be using local producers that we have fallen in love with from the area.

"It will be a great way to show off what we like about Kilkenny through the medium of food."
