Tributes pour in for Fair City writer Ken Harmon following his sudden death

Tributes have been pouring in for Fair City writer Ken Harmon following his sudden death.

A number of actors from the long-running RTE soap opera have shared their condolences to the writer.

Ken worked as a screenwriter, playwright, producer and actor. Aside from Fair City, he created and wrote RTE drama series "Legend", while his theatre work was frequently staged at the Abbey Theatre.

Later on in his career, Ken worked as one of Fair City's chief storyline writers.

Ken was previously married to Sorcha Furlong, who plays Carrigstown's Orla Molloy. The couple began dating in 2015 and tied the knot in 2019.

However, the couple split up during lockdown, with Sorcha confirming they had tried to make things work but would always remain professional with each other on the set of Fair City.

A notice on RIP.ie reads: "Ken Harmon, passed away on the 30th of September suddenly and unexpectedly. He is sadly missed by his heartbroken family and his many friends.

"Reposing in Irwin's Funeral Home, Bóthar Irwin, on Friday, the 4th of October, from 5pm until 7pm. Cremation service will take place on Saturday, the 5th of October, at 2pm, in Shannon Crematorium, County Clare."

A spokesperson from Fair City told The Sunday World: "We are deeply saddened by the passing of our friend and colleague Ken Harmon. Our thoughts are with all those who loved him during this difficult time."

A number of Ken's Fair City colleagues paid tribute to the writer on RIP.ie.

“Rest in peace Ken. Thoughts and Prayers to all who loved you,” wrote Stephanie Kelly, who plays Sash Bishop.

Deirdre Donnelly, who plays Jacinta Boyle, added: "My deepest condolences to Ken's family and friends. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam."

While Ruth Hegarty, famed for playing Nora Keogh in the RTE soap, added: "So sorry to hear this sad news. My condolences to Ken’s family. May Ken rest in peace."
