Strictly's JB Gill addresses 'weird' change with new pro after Amy Dowden's sudden exit

Strictly Come Dancing's JB Gill has shared his honest thoughts about switching dance partners midway through the competition following Amy Dowden's exit. Amy, 34, had made a comeback to the 2024 series after her battle with breast cancer, but has been forced to pull out due to a foot injury.

In her absence, JLS star JB, 37, has continued his Strictly journey with new professional partner Lauren Oakley, 33. So far, they have performed two high-scoring routines together; a Samba and a Couple's Choice dance.

Opening up about the unexpected partner switch, the singer described dancing with Lauren as "surreal" at first due to his strong rapport with Amy. "It's weird not dancing with Amy, but Lauren is absolutely lovely and it's great that she's been able to take over and do such a great job," JB explained to Heat Magazine.

Despite missing Amy's presence, he praised Lauren's infectious energy, adding: "You've seen her all throughout the series doing various group dances and she is amazing, so it's been great to work with her.

"I just want to say a huge thank you to every single person who has supported Amy and sent messages."

Commending Lauren's remarkable talent, he added: "She's an incredible dancer, so for me, it's about letting go and being in the moment.

"That's what it's all about, making Amy proud."

In a candid Instagram post last month, Amy shared her heartache over her unexpected exit from the competition. "I'm so sad, so upset and asking why me, why now that our journey has been cut short," she wrote.

"My heart right now is breaking having to pull out of the competition due to a foot injury and I know only too well 'this too shall pass' and I'll be soon better and back dancing."

The professional dancer went on to share support for her former dance partner and his new pro, adding: "I'll forever be your biggest cheerleader."
