Hollywood stars seen in West Country buying huge amount of flapjacks
by Lisa Letcher · DevonLiveHollywood stars have been spotted filming on a boat in the West Country. Emma Thompson and Ruth Wilson were spotted in Newquay alongside fellow star Gary Lewis on Monday (November 11).
It comes after an earlier sighting of Nanny Mcphee and Harry Potter star Thompson, 65, collecting a large amount of flapjacks from a Cornish bakery to feed the film crew. She visited Flapjacker in Falmouth and posed for a cheerful photo with the store's manager.
Although she remained tight-lipped about her current project at the time, it has since been revealed that she is filming scenes with Wilson for an upcoming British TV series on Apple+. The series, Down Cemetery Road, is an adaptation of Mick Herron's 2003 debut novel, as reported by Cornwall Live.
Adapted by Cornwall's Morwenna Banks, it tells the story of a woman who hires an investigator - played by Thompson - following an explosion, with a girl disappearing on the same night. Set in a quiet suburban neighbourhood in Oxford, Wilson, renowned for her roles in The Affair, Luther and Jane Eyre, plays Sarah Tucker, a woman obsessed with finding the missing child.
Filming commenced earlier this year with sightings of the stars in Bristol, including on the university campus back in June, and in Street, Somerset, but they have now relocated to Cornwall for some scenes.
Spotted most recently aboard a boat in Newquay, the vessel's name was 'Tammie Norrie' hinting at a Scottish link and a possible connection to the upcoming show, of which the storyline sees the pair's search take them from Oxford to a remote Scottish island. Tammie Norrie is the old Scots word for puffin, used especially in the Shetland area of the country.
Scottish actor Lewis was also pictured in the area donning overalls and shooting scenes according to locals. The 66-year-old Outlander and Billy Elliot star has not yet been confirmed as a member of the cast though so we'll have to wait to be sure.
Banks, who was born and raised in Cornwall and shares a home here with husband David Baddiel, is the lead writer and executive producer of the upcoming show. Down Cemetery Road joins the recently renewed multi-BAFTA Award-nominated espionage drama Slow Horses on Apple TV+, which Banks also wrote.
