Strictly Come Dancing's Wynne Evans' heartbreaking fear as he finds love again after split

by · DevonLive

Before setting the Strictly Come Dancing stage alight with partner Katya Jones, Wynne Evans candidly discussed his personal life's ups and downs, including the aftermath of a painful separation from his ex-wife Tanwen in 2016.

In a May interview on The Starting Line Podcast with Rich Leigh, Wynne offered a glimpse into his blossoming romance with girlfriend Liz Brookes, who has been seen supporting him from the Strictly studio.

Before finding happiness with events manager Liz, 50, Wynne, now 52, reminisced about encountering "nice people, and a lot of nutters" in the dating world post-divorce, leading host Rich to question: "Did anyone date you because you're the GoCompare man?"

Wynne, known for portraying Gio Compario in the iconic GoCompare adverts, jovially confirmed, "Of course, loads of people!" He hinted at having tried plenty of dating apps before meeting Liz at an event, and shared with Rich that their relationship, though new, was filled with "fun".

Reflecting on his journey, Wynne said: "I came out of another relationship, and then... nothing. And then, just recently, met this other person. So it's good, it's fun."

When Rich inquired if he was keeping expectations light, Wynne acknowledged his desire for a lasting connection, driven by fears of solitude, saying, "Yeah, so I'm way more philosophical now, about that, and I still worry about dying alone - that's one of my worries."

The host then shared an impactful insight he gleaned after speaking with Dame Esther Rantzen about the nature of loneliness.

Reflecting on the interview, he said: "I interviewed Esther Rantzen once, and we were talking about loneliness, and she said, 'you can be lonely in a full room, you know?' And you totally can be."

Wynne has credited his significant other, Liz, for the positive influence on his wellness journey, which resulted in a remarkable weight loss of seven stone.

This transformation followed his decision to cut out bread, burgers, and cheese, along with reducing alcohol consumption.

Wynne elaborated on his healthy lifestyle changes in the podcast, stating: "I go out running with my girlfriend and stuff, and I feel much better for it. I will go out with her."
