MasterChef judge John Torode's major complaint about Gregg Wallace that led to row with wife
by Danny Gutmann · DevonLiveMasterChef star John Torode shared an insight into his relationship with fellow judge Gregg Wallace as an early morning habit sparked a row with his wife. When recounting the habit to the Times, he expressed his frustration: "With Gregg my issue is the 6am phone calls. Last time it happened I wasn't very happy and I said, 'Gregg, mate, it's 6am'."
Greg's response was simply a reminder of his organised lifestyle: "And he said, 'But you're on my list!' That's the thing with Gregg, he gets up very early and his whole life is diarised and run on lists."
The untimely calls also troubled John's wife, actress Lisa Faulkner, disrupting their sleep. The MasterChef host conveyed, later in the year, that his previous remarks had effectively ended Gregg's disruptive calls: "As soon as that article came out those calls stopped."
Lisa has shared her own irritations about married life with John, particularly when it comes to his musical choices: "I can't bear it when John sings along to Supertramp. That's where our seven-year age gap really shows. Give a Little Bit by Supertramp and Mr Blue Sky by ELO - I just can't do it, I'm sorry."
In 2017, Torode made a surprising claim about their off-screen relationship, or lack thereof: "It's funny, we've never been friends. We've not been to each other's houses... He's so OCD, he wouldn't know what to do," reports the Express.
Gregg Wallace stepped back from the popular cooking series yesterday (Thursday, November 28) as an investigation into historical allegations by 13 individuals accusing him of making inappropriate sexual remarks. These claims span a 17-year period involving various programmes.
Banijay UK, the production company behind MasterChef, addressed the issue, stating: "This week the BBC received complaints from individuals in relation to historical allegations of misconduct while working with presenter Gregg Wallace on one of our shows.
"Whilst these are historical allegations, incidences brought to our attention where these expectations are not met, are thoroughly investigated and addressed appropriately."
Wallace's legal representatives have firmly denied any allegations of sexually harassing behaviour. Wallace has been a mainstay on MasterChef alongside John Torode since 2005 and has also appeared on The Chase and Celebrity Catchphrase.
