The India Centre is hosting an "Art Exhibition on Ramayana" at the National Museum in Yangon from November 8 to 15, 2024, featuring the works of renowned Indian artists.

The exhibition aims to enhance cultural exchanges between India and Myanmar, deepen mutual understanding, and foster artistic collaboration and friendship between the two nations.

The exhibition showcases 32 paintings, 6 sculptures, and 18 puppets, each depicting various aspects of the Ramayana, one of the most revered epics of Indian culture. The display highlights the epic's profound themes, captivating storylines, and universal moral teachings, offering both traditional and contemporary artistic interpretations of the ancient text.

On November 12, the Indian Ambassador to Myanmar, Shri Abhay Thakur, formally welcomed attendees, including Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein, prominent cultural figures, intellectuals, and members of the Indian community. Ambassador Thakur emphasized the significance of the exhibition, noting that it not only represents India’s cultural heritage but also reflects shared values between India and Myanmar, especially the triumph of good over evil and the importance of family and self-sacrifice.

“The Ramayana is celebrated across South Asia and Southeast Asia in diverse cultural forms. This exhibition highlights these artistic expressions and celebrates our shared religious and cultural ties,” said Ambassador Thakur.

The Ramayana continues to resonate deeply across the region, symbolizing the enduring importance of dharma (righteousness) and the triumph of good over evil, themes that hold universal significance in both Indian and Myanmar cultures.
