The final day of the Taunggyi Tazaungdaing Hot-Air Balloon Competition, combined with the closing ceremony, took place last night, marking the end of the week-long celebration.

Held at the Ahwaiya hot-air balloon ground in Taunggyi Township, southern Shan State, the festival, which ran from November 11 to 17, drew massive crowds, with reports of heavy traffic and packed parking areas.

"The hot-air balloon festival was incredibly lively like never before. The entire field was packed with spectators. The parking areas were so full that cars had to be parked along the streets as well. Vehicles without entry permits had to park at private lots, where parking fees reportedly reached up to 30,000 kyats per night," shared a local attendee.

The nighttime festivities featured dazzling illuminated hot-air balloons, including grand fire balloons and intricately designed Seinnaban balloons, alongside live entertainment programs.

Daytime events included the release of various creative balloon figures, while evenings showcased illuminated balloons adorned with gold ornaments and detailed designs.

The festival hosted 50 hot-air balloons in total, comprising 26 illuminated "grand fire" balloons and 24 Seinnaban balloons. Additionally, 147 two-legged balloons, 38 four-legged balloons, and 23 decorative group balloons participated in the competition.

Other highlights included the Matho Robe Weaving Competition, the grand procession of communal Kathina Robes, and vibrant fireworks displays, making it a festive and colorful celebration.
