by · Irish Mirror

A man has been urged to speak up after discovering his daughter is related to her best friend at school.

He explained how his daughter was close friends with a young girl from the neighbourhood - and the two would often spend time together outside of the classroom.

However, it turns out not only were they close by choice, but also genetically. He said on Reddit : "In our younger days the ex-wife and I would get drunk and have foursomes with a co worker and his wife. They were never able to have kids. Suddenly she became pregnant. My wife also became pregnant. No one ever really said much about it.

"After several years I had a new career, we moved away then came back to the same area. One day my daughter came home and said she has a twin sister in her class and named the girl. Yep it was her."

At the time, they all denied the truth and tried to brush the conversation under the rug. But now she is older, he has been urged to come clean.

My daughter’s friend in elementary school was actually her sister.

One user said: "I just found out at 35 that my dad isn’t my bio dad. I’m positive he doesn’t know that and I’m not sure what my mom knows/thinks/suspects because I haven’t told anyone. so yeah, go hug your decent parents!" While another added: "While going through her dad's old stuff, my mum found photographs of him with what looks like another wife and child in Germany. He was married to her mum at the time! So she quite possibly has at least 1 half sibling in Europe."

A third user also said: "They were blessed with a child. Although, I do think y'all need to come around to a comfortable version of you were a donor to tell the daughter. The medical history is important and your child deserves to know about her siblings before 23andMe (or similar) connects the sisters.

Meanwhile, one more person said: "Eventually your daughter could get a DNA test sometime during her life. You can decide if you want to do it now so they’ll be no surprises later, even if you don’t want to tell your daughter the results now (I don’t know how young she is). Just saying. This will come to light someday."
