Lorraine Kelly given legal warning over Colleen Rooney discussion

by · BristolLive

Lorraine Kelly has spoken out about being warned by ITVs legal team over the possibility of discussing Coleen Rooney and Rebekah Vardy on air. During her show on ITV, Lorraine revealed to the audience that she had been cautioned against talking about the 'Wagatha Christie' trial.

This notice comes in the wake of Coleen Rooney's participation in this year's 'I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!', following her widely covered legal dispute with Rebekah, reports the Mirror.

Coleen, 38, accused Rebekah of leaking stories to The Sun newspaper in a viral social media post. Rebekah, who was on 'I'm A Celebrity' in 2017, instigated a high-profile defamation case, but in July 2022, the High Court ruled that Coleen's allegations were "substantially true".

On Tuesday's episode of 'Lorraine', the presenter touched on the latest from 'I'm A Celebrity' and discussed the guidance she received regarding Wagatha Christie references. While chatting with colleague Rishi Davda, Lorraine mentioned: "Now this is very serious Rishi, we've had some advice from our lawyers that we can't actually say Wagatha Christie."

She joked as Rishi chimed in with: "I don't know the going rate actually." Lorraine then suggested: "So we'll have to call it something else, what can we call it? " to which Rishi humorously responded: "We can abbreviate it to WC."

Rebekah Vardy, who lost her libel case against Coleen Rooney last year, has trademarked the name 'Wagatha Christie'. The Mirror reported that the trademark covers a wide range of areas including clothing, non-alcoholic beverages, broadcasting, education and beauty. If anyone else wants to use it, they'll need Rebekah's approval and may have to pay a fee.

When asked by the Mirror about her thoughts on the nickname and the possibility of being remembered differently, perhaps as Queen of the Jungle, Coleen responded: "I think I'd rather just be known as Coleen from Liverpool. Not from any other type of place. It's just me, as I always have been, so hopefully people just think she's that Scouser that she's always been."

However, Rebekah hasn't held back in sharing her views on Coleen's time on the show. After Coleen entered the camp, Rebekah shared a photo of herself relaxing in a pink bikini with her eyes closed, captioning it: "The feeling when you are living rent free in people's heads." She added a laughing-crying emoji and a winking emoji to her post.

Last month, a judge ruled that Rebekah would have to pay an additional £100,000 on top of the £1.8 million she's already been ordered to pay Coleen following the infamous Wagatha Christie trial.
