David Dastmalchian’s ‘Grave Conversations’ Will Rise from the Dead for Season 2
Exclusive: This season of the coffin-set talk show will feature guests Kumail Nanjiani, Jack Quaid, and Lauren LaVera.
by Harrison Richlin · IndieWireAre you ready to get deep? No, like, really deep. Like six feet under deep.
That’s right, actor, writer, and producer David Dastmalchian (“Late Night with the Devil,” “Oppenheimer”) is back for another season of his morbid, yet enlightening talk show, “Grave Conversations.” As part of the series, both host and guest are stationed inside caskets for an interview that explores topics of mortality, legacy, and what may come once one has passed on. Season 2 will feature 10 new celebrity guests, including award-winning actor, writer, and comedian Kumail Nanjiani (“Eternals,” “The Big Sick”), actor Jack Quaid (“The Boys,” “Oppenheimer”), and actress and martial artist Lauren LaVera (“Terrifier 3”).
Creator Elan Gale says of the series, “’Grave Conversations’ is a dream project. Getting to be a fly on the wall while David plumbs the very depths of his guests’ humanity is unlike anything I’ve experienced before. Conversations about death and dying are usually not this much fun, but normalizing these conversations can be an important part of dealing with our mortality, and to acknowledge mortality is to celebrate life. I can’t wait for you all to go on this journey of exploration with us.”
Dastmalchian adds, “It’s a huge honor when anyone in any setting is willing to open up and talk to me about subjects as tender and vulnerable as the end of life–or their opinion on geese, or whatever we decide to discuss. There is an immense well of thanks in my heart for every person who is willing to lie down in a casket beside me and talk about these thoughts in front of an audience. I feel honored and grateful that we get to do this again. I’m also incredibly lazy, so laying down while I perform interviews is just the best.”
Season 1 of “Grave Conversations” premiered in April 2024, featuring guests such as writer, director, and producer Mike Flanagan (“The Life of Chuck”), his wife, actress, writer, and director Kate Siegel (“The Fall of the House of Usher”), and actor Matthew Lillard (“Five Nights at Freddy’s”). Since premiering, episodes have collectively stacked up over 10 million views across Instagram and X. Production on Season 2 is underway now, produced by Gale and Dastmalchian’s companies, TheYearofElan Productions and Good Fiend Films, respectively, in collaboration with Titan Casket, who provide the setting for each interview. More details on the release schedule and lineup for Season 2 will be unveiled in early 2025.
