ITV I'm A Celebrity's Barry McGuigan 'checked out of camp' as fans fear he's 'had enough'
by Amelia Ward · NottinghamshireLiveConcern is growing among I'm A Celebrity fans regarding Barry McGuigan, following the camp being penalised due to Dean's contraband mishap. The ex-boxer, aged 63, appears increasingly 'hangry' after an anticipated treat was revoked when Dean smuggled teabags into the jungle.
Radio 1's Dean McCullough's tea-making did not go down well with Barry, who is feeling the repercussions of the show's strict "contraband means consequences" rule.
Barry has been less visible on the recent shows, prompting Sam Thompson to mention on Thursday's spin-off programme Unpacked that Barry 'hasn't said a word in four days'. The situation escalated when Barry was directed to surrender "all remaining contraband" at the jungle amnesty, to which he promptly responded: "So presumably it's the teabags, right? " His comments reflected the camp's disappointment over missing out on cakes.
Voicing his irritation in the Bush Telegraph, Barry’s frustration is noticeable, leading some viewers to believe he may have 'checked out' mentally from the competition, particularly with ongoing food shortage caused by Dean’s unsuccessful Bushtucker Trials. Despite having enjoyed some "hot water" earlier, Barry did not find humour in Dean joking about how the teabags had "fallen" into his bag, suggesting a tense atmosphere persists in the camp.
Viewers at home are expressing concern that the sportsman might be reaching his limits, as they discuss on social media platform X. One fan commented: "They are lucky Barry is a sweetheart. He's an ex-sports man, probably used to eating a lot. And already complaining about being hungry. Any other would have flipped his lid already.", reports the Mirror.
Another pointed out: "Barry McGuigan is f***ing seething about that cupcake," while a third said: "Who the hell is still voting for bloody Dean? ! Poor Barry is gonna wither away soon! " Tensions between Barry and broadcaster Dean seem apparent to some viewers, with one predicting: "Barry is going to spark Dean out by the end of this series."
Another observed: "Barry is going to lose his rag the quickest.. The man is starving. I am here for this," and another remarked: "Barry is gonna end up being the one who causes the trouble this year, you can just see it he doesn't look like he is enjoying himself."
The already tense situation could be exacerbated by Shane McGuigan's ex-girlfriend Maura Higgins joining the set.
Love Island star Maura, aged 33, met Barry's son Shane at a boxing match and had a brief romance that ended due to distance issues.
While initially, Maura and Reverend Coles will only interact with the current campmates during challenges and enjoy luxury accommodation, fans speculate an awkward encounter when Maura crosses paths with her ex's father. Shane is now engaged to singer-songwriter Taylor West, and they are parents to two sons, Finley and Calean, born in 2023 and 2024 respectively.
