Davina McCall gives new update on health after brain tumour surgery
by Sam Cooper, Jamie Roberts · NottinghamshireLiveDavina McCall has given fans an important health update following her operation to remove a brain tumour. The much-loved television presenter stated she's feeling "much better" as she continues her recovery at home.
She expressed in an update: "I'm just trying to sleep a lot and get better. My short term memory is really improving a lot everyday and it has been an example to me on how much sleep helps me recover from everything."
The former Big Brother host, aged 57, went through six hours of surgery earlier this month to excise a benign 14mm brain tumour, which was detected unexpectedly during a routine scan a few months ago while presenting for a menopause company. She candidly admitted to being taken aback after the discovery, having anticipated that she would "ace" her health check.
In recent comments, McCall highlighted the supportive presence of her late father Andrew's wife, who has been her "stabilising" force during her health struggles. With warmth on Instagram, Davina extended her thanks to Gaby and stepmothers everywhere, calling her "an amazing rock" and playfully dubbing her "a big dose of vitamin G."
Talking from her bed in a video message filmed post-surgery, Davina mentioned: "I'm being brilliantly looked after by Michael and my mum. I'd quickly like to say big up the step-mums. I don't really say thank you to Gaby enough. She's been an amazing rock my whole life.", reports the Mirror.
Davina McCall, in a heartfelt conversation, shared: "I was talking yesterday to somebody, I said I've got a massive dose of vitamin G. I think when something like this happens I just feel so grateful. I've always been grateful, I've been really lucky in my life."
Overcome with emotion, she continued, "I feel unbelievably grateful in my life right now, so thanks for everything. I'm on the mend, I'm resting, I'm sleeping loads and I feel really good. I just feel very lucky."
This update follows her decision to continue recording her weekly podcast with partner Michael, despite being in recovery. The new show, titled 'Begin Again', launched last month, and Davina was determined that her brain tumour diagnosis would not halt its progress.
Initially, there were suggestions that the show might pause following her surgery. An update on her condition was released days after the operation.
In a pre-recorded chat before her surgery, Davina informed listeners that Michael would be managing her social media accounts during her recovery. He stated at the time that she would be "off grid" until fully recovered.
Accompanying a video update, he wrote: "Hey everyone. Michael here. @davinamccall will be "off grid" for a bit while she recovers from this brain operation. She is in great shape and in very good hands."
"I'll do the odd update from her account here for anyone interested. I'm sure she'll read all the comments when she's able to so feel free to send love [heart emoji] . The support of people is amazingly powerful. Have a great day everyone. Michael xxx."
