Cheryl's 'heartbreaking' vow to son Bear as she attends Liam Payne's funeral

Cheryl pledged a poignant final promise to the father of her child, Liam Payne, during his funeral on Wednesday. The Girls Aloud star was amongst those in attendance on November 20, which included One Direction's Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, and Niall Horan, as they gathered to bid farewell to the singer at St Mary's Church in Amersham, Buckinghamshire.

This follows after the harrowing event last month when Payne tragically lost his life after falling from his hotel balcony in Buenos Aires on 16 October. It is understood that Cheryl aided Liam's bereaved parents, Geoff and Karen Payne, in organising the funeral proceedings.

Though Wolverhampton was anticipated to be the chosen location for the service, honouring Liam's birthplace, Buckinghamshire held significance since it was where he lived with Cheryl and their son, Bear. After their separation, Liam acquired a property close to Cheryl's home in Chalfont Saint Giles to maintain proximity to Bear.

Sources claim that following his death under such dreadful circumstances, Liam's family aimed for a dignified and "perfect" tribute. Cheryl, reportedly left "devastated" by Liam's passing, made a heartfelt vow for the benefit of their seven year old son, Bear.

A friend of the singer has told MailOnline that she has vowed to ensure their child will never forget his father. This comes as the extent of Bear's loss was highlighted when Liam's coffin arrived at a Home Counties church in a horse-drawn carriage, adorned with two floral tributes, reports the Mirror.

One read "son", while another heart-wrenching tribute from Bear simply read "Daddy". The singer's friends revealed to the news outlet that Cheryl is "dreadfully sad", adding: "She has her own grief, but she also has a little boy who won't see his daddy again, and that is just heartbreaking," Despite Cheryl and Liam parting ways in 2018 after a two-year relationship, they remained "bonded" over their shared love for their son.

Just days after his passing, Cheryl paid tribute to her former partner on Instagram, acknowledging the harsh reality of their son never seeing his father again. Sharing a monochrome photo of Payne in bed with their son, Cheryl wrote: "As I try to navigate this earth shattering event, and work through my own grief at this indescribably painful time, I'd like to kindly remind everyone that we have lost a human being."

She continued: "Liam was not only a pop star and celebrity, he was a son, a brother, an uncle, a dear friend and a father to our seven year old son. A son that now has to face the reality of never seeing his father again."

The former couple seemed to be on good terms at the time of Liam's death, with the Teardrops singer consistently praising his ex-girlfriend for being the "best mum in the world" and allowing him to pursue his music career while balancing fatherhood. Liam's farewell was also attended by his girlfriend at the time of his death, Kate Cassidy.

This likely marked the first time she met his parents, despite dating since October 2022. She was joined by Elizabeth Hurley's son, Damian.

Kate travelled with Liam to Buenos Aires in October. However, she wasn't with him when he died, having returned to Miami just four days prior.

She has briefly expressed her grief following his death and told fans that she and Liam had plans to marry in the future. Simon Cowell, James Corden, and Adrian Chiles were also among the many stars who attended Liam's funeral.

The former X Factor boss appeared troubled after the service and was comforted by Liam's dad Geoff.
