Huge ITV Coronation Street shake-up for Christmas Day episode

by · NottinghamshireLive

Coronation Street fans can brace themselves for an eventful Christmas Day episode this year. As the long-standing soap marks its 64th year, it remains a festive tradition for loyal viewers, who have watched numerous dramatic storylines unfold over the seasons.

From heartache and health scares to remarkable stunts and surprise returns, it’s rarely a quiet holiday in Weatherfield. The show's new chief, Kate Brooks, has stated in a chat with Plymouth Live that this year's instalment is set to be "very fun" and "really lively", laden with major revelations as several "lots of bombshells are dropped".

Central to the episode, Gail Platt (played by Helen Worth) may be heading down the aisle with Jesse Chadwick (portrayed by John Thomson), although Kate hinted coyly: "Whether she goes through with that or not, I cannot tell anything."

Earlier, Helen Worth confirmed her exit from the series after an incredible 50 years, her final scenes expected to broadcast during the festive period. Corrie certainly knows how to keep Christmas far from dull, with Kate teasing further: "There are lots of betrayals and lots of secrets are exposed."

Yet, there's a significant tweak in store—this Christmas, die-hard Corrie and Emmerdale viewers accustomed to early morning shows at 7am on ITVX may need to amend their plans, reports the Express.

The eagerly awaited Christmas Day episode of Coronation Street won't be airing first thing in the morning, but will stick to its usual evening slot on ITV1. The show's producer, Kate Oates, has given fans a sneak peek into what they can expect from the holiday special, stating, "it will feel very kind of classic Corrie with a bit of a twist".

She further explained the need for some light-hearted entertainment: "We are all in need of a bit of escapism at the minute. And we've had quite a dark and brilliant, few months on the cobbles. Christmas for us, is all about us trying to tap into the family dynamics of the Platts, what makes people tick."
