Inquest opens after 'cheeky' and 'kind' young man died in Newark crash
by Joseph Connolly · NottinghamshireLiveA "sensitive and kind" young man who died in a car crash suffered an "acute lung injury" when his Volkswagen Golf hit a tree. An inquest into Wilf Harvey-Davies' death has been opened at Nottingham Coroners' Court this week.
Former Nottingham Trent University student Mr Harvey-Davies, who his family said loved cars and Liverpool FC, was pronounced dead at the scene on Monday, July 15 in Barnby Road, Newark. Police were called at around 5.30am after a member of the public came across the vehicle.
The 23-year-old, who was born on May 16, 2001, was identified by his father at Queen's Medical Centre on Tuesday, July 16. His inquest, opened on Wednesday, October 30, was adjourned until Monday, November 4 to allow for completion of further inquiries.
The inquest opening also mentioned that his death was also contributed to by "acute mixed drug toxicity". Concluding, Assistant Coroner Fiona Gingell offered her sincere condolences to the family and friends of Mr Harvey-Davies in respect of their loss.
His family previously released a statement on his death, saying: “It has been a complete shock to us as a family, coming to terms with him not being here anymore. If it was not for our faith, it would be unbearable.
“It has brought us together and the amount of support we have received from family, friends and those who knew him has been amazing. We can’t believe one person has touched so many lives at such a young age. Wilf was the type of person that wouldn’t want us to be sad. He would want us to carry on."
