Stereophonics drummer Jamie Morrison rushed to hospital moments before Nottingham Rescue Rooms gig

by · NottinghamshireLive

Stereophonics drummer Jamie Morrison was rushed to hospital just minutes before taking the stage at Nottingham's Rescue Rooms on Monday night, where he was set to perform with his side project, 86TVs. The band issued a statement to fans, saying: "We had quite a dramatic day yesterday when, minutes before doors opened in Nottingham, Jamie was rushed into hospital. He is still in there and has been strongly advised by doctors to not attempt to do the shows this week."

The statement continued: "We are all heartbroken about this – the shows on this run really have been our best ever – but obviously health comes first. Please send your love and get wells to one of the best to ever do it."

With several tour dates remaining, including Manchester, Bristol, London, Cambridge, and Leeds, the band apologised to fans, especially those who had made long-distance travel plans, as they were forced to cancel the shows.

The 41-year-old drummer has been touring with 86TVs, which also features members of The Maccabees, Hugo and Felix White, and their brother Will. Fans have been quick to show their support for Jamie Morrison after news of his health concerns.

One fan wrote: "Get well soon Jamie x.", reports the Mirror.

Another sent wishes stating: "Oh no. Sending best wishes to Jamie for a speedy recovery and love to you all."

A concerned message read: "Oh my gosh! Terrible news - hope you get well soon," while another urged: "Get well soon Jamie health comes first!" The drummer, who's had stints with Noisettes and Drewford Alabama, has made his mark in the music scene through his own label Ninjas and Wolves as Pop Morrison and later joined Stereophonics in 2012. After leaving Noisettes, he became part of 86TVs, and the band went on to sign with Parlophone Records last year.

As he gears up for a return to touring with Stereophonics next year for their UK and Ireland summer tour, fans will be eager to see him back behind the drums. The 'Stadium Anthems' tour, Stereophonics' first set of live performances in three years, will kick off in June, spanning multiple venues including Huddersfield's John Smith's Stadium and Glasgow Bellahouston Park, with the band also set to perform at this year’s Isle of Wight Festival.
