Inside Strictly Come Dancing's Dianne Buswell's life with famous boyfriend and heartbreaking health battle
by Danni King · NottinghamshireLiveDianne Buswell, the professional dancer who joined Strictly Come Dancing in 2017, has won over many fans. This year, she's partnered with comedian Chris McCausland and their performances have been a hit with viewers, leading to calls for them to win the coveted Glitterball trophy.
Despite not yet winning the competition, 35 year old Dianne has reached the final twice - once with YouTuber Joe Sugg and again with EastEnders actor Bobby Brazier. She and Chris, who is visually impaired due to retinitis pigmentosa, have consistently wowed the judges on the BBC show with their routines, avoiding the dance-off so far.
Dianne made the move from Australia to the UK when she joined the Strictly cast in 2017. Prior to this, she was a dancer on Australia's Dancing With The Stars and also featured on So You Think You Can Dance Australia.
Since relocating, she's appeared on Children In Need, CelebAbility, Pointless Celebrities, Freeze The Fear With Wim Hof, and Celebrity Masterchef. Strictly has had a significant impact on Dianne's life, including her move to the UK and finding love.
She is currently dating YouTube sensation Joe Sugg, whom she met while they were partners on Strictly in 2018, reports the Daily Record. After the series ended, the couple, now aged 33 and 35 respectively, announced that they were in a relationship, reports Wales Online.
The love story of the couple, Joe and Dianne, is going from strength to strength as they nestle into a grand £3.5 million five-bed property near Brighton, the city where Joe Sugg, Zoella's brother, grew up. The two harbour dreams of growing their family, with Dianne telling Women's Health: "Joe is the most supportive person. I'd love to have a family one day, and I know Joe would love a family too. That would be our dream one day."
Professionally, Dianne has been transparent about her struggles with past health issues. She opened up last year about battling bulimia during her younger years, highlighting her obsession with achieving an ideal physique.
She recounted how she ended up in hospital for missed meals and excessive exercise leading to anaemia due to a lack of iron. At this difficult point in her life, the now healthy star stopped having periods and found it hard to climb stairs.
Dianne recognises her hospitalisation as a turning point that she emphatically states she "never wants to return to, ever". Speaking about her past health battles on ITV's Lorraine, she divulged: "I worked on a cruise ship for quite a while. It's tricky, because as a dancer you get weighed. We got weighed every week and had a thing called a WW, which was a weight warning. I had two of them in my time and I weighed two more kilos that I do now."
She further disclosed: "I went through one point where I just wouldn't eat, so I just had a drink for lunch and a drink for dinner. I got really sick and if I did have some food, I would make myself sick because I wouldn't want it in me. I adore dancing, but I guess as I became more successful, the pressures also grew. That can really spiral you into this awful self-doubt and the pressure of that makes you do crazy things."
