The opening date of a new Stapleford café that received £16,500 of public money has finally been confirmed after a year of delay. Charmaine Silver received the money from the Stapleford Towns Fund to refurbish and enhance the Church Street building which is now home to her new café.

The Stapleford Towns Fund was set up to deliver government money allocated to the area. At the time, it was suggested that the café would open in November 2023.

Questions were raised earlier this year given the lack of any update, but Nottinghamshire Live recently reported that the business still intended to open. An opening date has now finally been confirmed for the Wake Cup Café, with people invited to attend a grand opening ceremony on November 30 from 12pm onwards.

A flyer being sent out in the area reads: "You are invited to a grand opening. Attend our new café shop opening and get a special discount and treats."

The slogan of the new cafe, also known by its French translation of Café du Réveil, is 'Taste the Sunshine'. Ms Silver says the site will specialise in food from a mixture of cultures and will also serve breakfast food.

The contribution from the Stapleford Towns Fund was coupled with a contribution of £10,000 from the co-founder of the site. Broxtowe Borough Council, which is partly responsible for the towns fund, confirmed the grant was to "support the investment in restaurant, equipment and kitchens area on the ground floor."
