Nottingham bin collections cancelled as snow makes streets 'unsafe' for crews
by Oliver Pridmore · NottinghamshireLiveBin collections have been cancelled across Nottingham as crews tackle hazardous road conditions caused by the snow. Nottingham City Council says that bulky waste and white goods collections will not be taking place on Tuesday (November 19).
Other collections will be going ahead, but delays mean that bin crews may not complete all collections. Gedling Borough Council has cancelled garden waste and glass box collections and the authority also says there may be delays for its other collections.
Nottingham City Council said in a statement: "Adverse weather conditions, including ice and snow, will make some streets unsafe for waste collection today and in the coming days. Slippery footpaths, steep and narrow roads, pose hazards for our 32-tonne vehicles and crews.
"All crews have been despatched today (residual, recycling and garden) but we may not complete all collections due to the road conditions. If we're unable to reach your street we'll return as soon as we can, so please leave your bin presented and await further updates."
Bin crews in Rushcliffe appear to be hardier, with the borough council issuing a statement saying: "Great work by our waste teams out in the conditions this morning. Ben, Keith and Ed are among those out collecting the bins as usual with no reported issues with collections."
Gedling Borough Council added: "We are collecting normal waste but our services are severally restricted due to the snow so please bear with us. If we do not collect your waste or recycling bin, please leave it out and we will come back as soon as the snow has cleared and it's safe to do so.
"You do not need to report your bin if your street has been missed. We will be prioritising the collection of normal waste and may not be able to collect garden and glass but we will keep updating residents on our social media and through our bin email alerts."
