Liam Payne funeral details latest as fans leave tributes outside Wolverhampton church
by Sam Cooper, Annabal Bagdi · NottinghamshireLiveFans of Liam Payne have been leaving tributes outside a church where his funeral is rumoured to be held. The news of the 31-year-old's tragic death has left his fans, known as Directioners, from across the Midlands heartbroken.
Reports suggest that the funeral could take place in his hometown of Wolverhampton in the coming week. Payne was raised in Bushbury, while his family still resides in nearby Codsall, South Staffordshire.
Although the details of the service are yet to be released, it is believed that it might be held at St. Peter's Collegiate Church. Fans have since created a shrine of tributes around the Lady Wulfrun statue located outside the church. The statue is now surrounded by flowers, balloons, cards, and photographs of Liam.
Soft toys and candles have also been placed at the scene by mourning fans. One fan left a note with lyrics from One Direction's song 'Walking in the Wind', which read: "Goodbyes are bittersweet. But it's not the end. I'll see your face again.", reports Birmingham Live.
Another fan wrote a heartfelt letter, ending it with the words "fly high". Liam died in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on October 16.
He was in the capital with his girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, who decided to return to her home in Florida alone. He stayed behind but tragically died after falling from the balcony of his third-floor room at the CasaSur Palermo hotel.
Following the tragic death of his son, Geoff flew to Buenos Aires. It is understood that preparations are now being made to repatriate Payne's body.
Reports suggest that a 'huge' tribute service is being planned by celebrity friends for the former ITV The X Factor star. Speculations are rife that his former One Direction bandmates - Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson - could reunite at the service.
Liam leaves behind a seven-year-old son, Bear, whom he shared with ex-girlfriend Cheryl Cole.
