ITV I'm A Celeb fans spot sign Dean McCullough is 'faking it'
by Jamie Barlow, Peter Harris, Joel Leaver · NottinghamshireLiveI'm A Celebrity viewers couldn't help but notice an intriguing aspect of Dean McCullough's behaviour in the latest episode of the ITV reality show. The opening scenes on Tuesday (November 26) featured the campmates boarding the Fright Bus for a thrilling ride, and BBC Radio presenter Dean, 32, caught the attention of some watching at home who suggested he might be 'faking it' at certain moments on I'm A Celebrity.
This speculation follows Dean's experience with six bushtucker trials thus far in the series where he's twice uttered the famous line, 'I'm a celebrity get me out of here,' including one trial where he failed to secure any stars.
However, as OK! magazine reports, despite his frightful outbursts in solo trials, Dean achieved double figures in his latest trial and showed a notable calmness during the group trial on Tuesday's episode, a noticeable shift from previous trials when he was alone.
Tweets rolled in with fans commenting on this disparity; one posed, "Dean screaming the least? Is he ok?" while another remarked, "Na the difference in Dean doing the fright bus compared to the trials is actually embarrassing! Just shows how much he's been overdramatic and playing on it for the camera time/attention."
Meanwhile, a third viewer speculated: "Suddenly Dean has no fear .... cementing the suspicion of his dramatics being faker than that of a premier league footballer," reports the Mirror.
One sceptical fan suggested it was all a tactic to garner public votes, remarking: "Oh Dean has just proved all our points he was doing it all to get the votes to do the trials to get the screen time."
After the group task Fright Bus, rumours swirled that Tulisa Contostavlos might face the next trial, particularly as Barry McGuigan had repeatedly come to her aid to remove the creepy crawlies. It was confirmed at the end of Tuesday's episode that she would be undertaking the next one.
Over the weekend, presenter Ant McPartlin had urged viewers to refrain from voting for Dean for trials to allow other celebrities a chance to participate in upcoming ones. The trial featured in Tuesday's episode saw Maura Higgins and Jane Moore in action.
On the spin-off show I'm A Celebrity ... Unpacked, host Joel Dommett questioned Ant: "What do you think about Dean doing the trial again [on Monday]?" To which Ant responded seriously: "Right. Let's all have a serious talk. I'm going to look directly into the camera here. I think it's good to see other faces down there."
Ant elaborated: "This is not a personal thing. It's not about Dean, it's about us just seeing different people down there. And I think we want to see different people on the show being featured. Some people unfortunately aren't getting [screen time]."
