The blue blur (and the ultimate life form) are headed to cinemas next month and more information about this new big screen outing is starting to surface. Apart from the director Jeff Fowler teasing some new details, it seems we might also now have the runtime of Sonic the Hedgehog 3.

According to a listing by AMC Theatres (via Sonic Stadium), Sonic 3 will have a runtime of 1 hour and 49 minutes, when it launches on 20th December 2024. For anyone wondering, that's apparently 13 minutes shorter than the second movie which surpassed the two-hour mark (2 hours and 2 minutes). The first movie was 1 hour and 39 minutes and was the shortest of the lot.

AMC has also shared a description, which provides a basic outline of Sonic's "most thrilling adventure yet":

"Sonic the Hedgehog returns to the big screen this holiday season in his most thrilling adventure yet. Sonic, Knuckles, and Tails reunite against a powerful new adversary, Shadow, a mysterious villain with powers unlike anything they have faced before. With their abilities outmatched in every way, Team Sonic must seek out an unlikely alliance in hopes of stopping Shadow and protecting the planet."

This again follows the director Jeff Fowler teasing...spoiler alert...a character at the end of this new movie, which could mean we're getting more adventures beyond the current one. In saying this, there's no official confirmation of a 'Sonic the Hedgehog 4' movie at the time of writing.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 speeds into cinemas December 2024.

Quite long. But this story is also very complex.

Imagine if they kept the first movie’s original Sonic design how Shadow would look in this

Well going to have to pass on this one, hope people will enjoy it.

@rvcolem1 Any reason why?

Second movie had like 20 minutes of filler so it's funny to see it's the longest. That said, it was still enjoyable, just like the first one.

Really excited for the third movie.

@TheExile285 for some reason I wasn't interested, I like cartoons and stuff just the comedy isn't my taste from the trailers. I dont like the sonic games in general. Also I've never found Jim Carrey entertaining, I can't think of one of his movies that I enjoy. I'm sure there is something, but nothing pops out. My wife and her sister went to both so it worked out for me, they liked the first and didn't like the second one.

@LimitedPower

@Serpenterror What a pretty hedgehog!

So hyped for this film, the trailer was awesome

@rvcolem1 Gotcha. Those are all fair points.

@TheExile285 but I live like a mile from a movie theater that does cheap movies on Sundays. Sometimes we drive up there and just see whatever is playing next.

Hope it’s as good as the last two films. As far as I’m concerned, the Sonic films are second only to Detective Pikachu with game to film adaptations

@somnambulance What makes Detective Pikachu better for you? Not saying your opinion is wrong, just wanted to understand.

@MeanBeanEgg I’m a sucker for a good noir/mystery, so it may be genre bias, could be that I like Pokemon more than Sonic too, so I’ve got more investment there. I think they’re similar in quality. Honestly, I think Sonic’s films are a more enjoyable version of Sonic than the shows or games. Jim Carey as Eggman is certainly the best gaming performance to hit the silver screen by a wide margin too.

After playing Shadow x Generations, I firmly believe they made the right casting choice of Keanu Reeves as Shadow. Only Keanu can play Shadow. He was born for the role.

Shadow needs to ride in on an eagle.

@somnambulance Oh, makes sense. I just think it's a very forgettable movie tbh.

@Serpenterror Thank you and curse you

This is kinda interesting because I was thinking since this movie is taking pages from Sa2 that the run time be somewhat similar to the second movie due to the tons of lore about shadow as a whole but mabye this runtime might pay off in the long run. ( I'm very werid when it comes to movie runtimes).

Funny them mentioning a character revealed at the end of the movie. At this point I don't know who it could be of any importance other than Metal Sonic, unless they plan on really getting into the lesser characters like Silver, etc. Thing is though, if Jim Carrey is not reprising his role as Eggman, I'm not sure overall how good the movie will be unless someone can fill those shoes with aplumb.
