Bring a friend

Nintendo has announced a new Black Friday offer in which any individual 12-month Switch Online membership purchase will be granted an additional code to give to a friend.

The offer is now in place until 1st December 2024 and is currently valid in the UK and Europe, though if the same is announced for North America, we will update this post to confirm. We're also not sure exactly how the offer works and whether there are any measures in place to prevent the user making the purchase from simply redeeming two codes on one account – it doesn't sound like there are any restrictons, but once we know for sure, we'll let you know.

Regardless, it's a pretty neat offer. Even if you can't redeem both codes on your own account, you're effectively halving the price of an individual membership; for the Expansion Pack tier specifically, that's a pretty darn good deal.

It's also valid if you're slap bang in the middle of your current membership. You can simply renew it now and benefit from receiving an additional code. Just be aware that you might not receive the bonus code immediately; Nintendo has stated that it will be sent to your account's email address within 72 hours of purchase, and you'll also need to ensure it's redeemed before the end of January 2025.

Hmm if you have a family plan for just 2 people, this would be the cheaper route!

I’ve had a family membership of Nintendo Switch Online since it launched (and the Expansion Pack when it did), so these deals never apply to me. It seems like there are so many ways to get a free trial of NSO or a great deal for it (like Jamboree having three free months bundled with it).

For those who don’t always have a subscription, are these deals worth it? How often do you end up having a NSO subscription?

That's a great deal, wow.

Do these codes have an expiration date?

I ask because I don't really have anyone to share the other code with, so might as well use it as a 2-year subscription if possible.

And I remember when I got the physical Tetris 99, it came with a 12 month subscription.
The thing is I got it after I had renewed my NSO the week before, and the Tetris code was still active in 2021. So in that one I essentially had NSO from 2020 to 2022.

Though unorthodox, you can find the better deal that is joinning someones Family Plan for an 1/8 of the price, roughly $10-12, for the Expansion Plan and in the single digits for the Basic Plan for a year. My go-to is the NintendoSwitchOnline sub Reddit in search of those offering slots.

Got myself 2 more years with this deal, set until June 2027 which is nice.

max is 3 years otherwise I would have bought so more.

@HammerGalladeBro don't share just use it yourself

@Champalimo and you can confirm that works?

Not for me as I share a family membership with my friends (and so pay around €10 per year which is already in itself quite the offer, but also got two extra months thanks to the offer available last summer), but happy for those going for this!

I got that family plan with the genesis games cuz I hate my wallet

I cancelled my membership a while ago now and it's a bit of a weird one I guess because it's not as a result of the cost. It's undoubtedly good value.

I cancelled because I realised the game collections would never meet my needs. They just cannot get the rich depth of titles that I want to play - namely all the amazing 3rd Party games that they clearly will never get. So it made me question the point of the service.

That led me down the hilariously expensive rabbit hole of Analogue and just buying the games I want to play. I've never been happier!

I'm torn, my Expansion Pack subscription is set to expire in February and I've been contemplating dropping down to base NSO as I mostly use NSO just for online play nowadays but buy 1 year get 1 year free on Expansion Pack is decent value.

What is the max you can stack for? I'm already good for another 2 years.

@CrankyBonesGaming confirmed, 2 years of NSO

@msm2000 max 3 years of active subscription
