Arika Officially Developing New Entry In 'Tetris: The Grand Master' Series

"Coming in 2025"

by · Nintendo Life

If you need more Tetris in your life, Arika has announced it's signed a license agreement for a new Tetris game. It's been confirmed it will be a new entry in the developer's 'The Grand Master' series and is arriving at some point in 2025.

According to a translation of Arika's official PR, the new title is based on the concept of "Tetris that makes you better at Tetris" (thanks, Gematsu).

"New Tetris will implement new ideas based on the concept of 'Tetris that makes [you] good at Tetris' and is scheduled to be released during the fiscal year 2024. Please stay tuned for further details."

No platforms have been announced just yet and more details will be shared in the future.

The official Tetris account on social media goes into a bit more detail, explaining how this game will help train you to become the "ultimate Tetris pro". It also narrows the release window to next year mentioning how it's "coming in 2025".

This isn't the only Tetris-related news that's been in the headlines recently. Last month, Digital Eclipse announced Tetris Forever - a new collection featuring 15 classic games.

Nintendo will also be adding the original Tetris to its Switch Online NES library at some point in Winter 2024.

I hope that they keep the bewildering naming going.

"Tetris The Absolute Total And Utter Massively Supreme Grandmaster 3 Plus Plus Super Deluxe Turbo Special Edition."

It's a new game in the Grandmaster series! There's a proper announcement and English description on the official Tetris X account now, you might want to update the story/headline @liam_doolan:

Maybe the unreleased TGM4 they've been developing for years/had in the vaults?

Great news, Tetris relaxes me so! I just wish I didn’t suck at it lol.

@Snatcher I only played Tetris Effect because of the visuals and soundtrack. I'm terrible at the game too.

but will they come up with a better subtitle than Terror Instinct?

@Clyde_Radcliffe a couple days ago the TGM twitter account posted a zoomed in screenshot from the location test version of TGM4 (they've deleted it though) so I think it might actually be TGM4
I just hope that it'll release on consoles and not just arcades

@Snatcher if you play Tetris to be relaxed then you should probably avoid the TGM games, they are very difficult and aren't made to be relaxing

More Tetris is always great news. I can't get enough of this game. Really curious how this new version will end up. In the tweet, they do mention 2025, so somewhere between January and March ...
Tetris is like a cup of coffee in the morning, at least to me, and I don't play games to be relaxed, really wonder how that works on other people 😅

@Sylamp thanks for the heads up as I didn’t know this, if I do get it now I will know it’s meant for challenges. Thank you!

@DripDropCop146 We will get better…someday…hopefully.

New tetrominoes as a paid dlc season pass.
(/jk - hopefully lol, never can tell these days!)

Nice, looking forward to seeing more of it even though it most likely won't be for me based on the quote of the article and it being "designed to help train you into the ultimate Tetris pro" according to the announcement shared by @Clyde_Radcliffe (thanks for telling us)!

@Clyde_Radcliffe Updated, cheers.

@Sylamp It's funny because I feel really relaxed and in the zone when playing extremely high speed Tetris like TGM! Maybe because I have ADHD though. I am the same with high speed WarioWare. I completely hyperfocus and it feels great.

I feel like it would never happen because it's so NOT something Nintendo would do, but I'd love it if they like Arika include a Tetris Grand Master theme in Tetris 99 to promote the next title when it's out, given they developed both games!

@Sylamp Oooh, I didn't know that! So it may well be TGM4... I wonder if we might get a port of TGM3 in Arcade Archives in the interim

I already have four freaking physical Tetris games on this thing, with Forever likely to get its own physical release, and now this. And there's even more if you count the Arcade Archives releases (which I've skipped).

As much as I love Tetris, this is getting ridiculous.

@Clyde_Radcliffe I feel like if Arcade Archives TGM3 was going to happen it would've by now given how quickly TGM2 got an Arcade Archives release after the first one, plus that game runs on some Windows based arcade board so that might be tricky to emulate

TBH, I am a sucker for MOST Tetris variations. So I will monitor.

This is cool! I'm not the biggest Tetris fan, but I love the vibe of these games.

Well this is good news!

@Yalloo

I think if you have neuro.... challenges like me, then the more a game "requires" of your consciousness, the more soothing, almost paradoxically.

personally I find Tetris, Fzero GX and Ikaruga VERY soothing, particularly if I'm just playing to survive as opposed to high scores.

@Clyde_Radcliffe

hey, I didnt see your comment about ADHD but you put it very well. the hyperfocus feels SO GOOD and it's like the only time in my life that my braincells feel like they are in total agreement about what to do lol ✌️ cheers

YES! I own like 6 different versions of Tetris on the Switch, but idc. I love the Grand Master titles purely off of speed and sfx alone.

@-wc- I take the compliment, thank you very much.
But 'soothing' is not the word I would use. I would rather say 'properly challenged'.
But games like Bayonetta, or higher difficulty rythm games like Taiko no Tatsujin or the Hatsune Miku one ... those can really get me in a sort of magical flow of some kind 😍

@Yalloo

"I take the compliment, thank you very much."

😊 ✌️ cheers

"But 'soothing' is not the word I would use. I would rather say 'properly challenged'."

I like that! 👍 very much.
