Queen Camilla once offered Kate Middleton advice on maintaining a happy marriage within the Royal Family, according to royal insiders. Camilla first charmed the then Prince Charles at a polo match in 1970 with the audacious pick-up line "My great-grandmother was the mistress of your great-great-grandfather. I feel we have something in common."

Richard Eden, Daily Mail's diary editor, suggests that her knack for saying the right thing at the right time remains intact.

Citing Robert Lacey's Battle of the Brothers, he said: "Camilla had confided to Kate that the secret of hanging on to a busy Prince is to fit your timetable – well basically your whole life around his. Katherine obviously took that advice and helped make William the happy prince he is today."

Speaking on The Daily Mail Royals YouTube channel, he also claimed that Camilla's initial impression of William was less than favourable, reportedly stating: "The boy's got a temper."

Richard elaborated: "Although Charles has known Camilla since 1970, William did not know her growing up," reports Surrey Live.

"In fact they first met in 1998, less than a year after Diana died. Camilla had firmly become part of Charles's life again and he felt that it was time she met his sons."

Princes William and Harry had not heard favourable things about their father's long-term partner due to Princess Diana's understandable resentment. However, with the then Prince Charles' 50th birthday approaching, an introduction was inevitable.

"The meeting came sooner than planned when William came home unexpectedly for the weekend from Eton," recounted Richard. "Camilla offered to leave, but Charles thought it right that they get it over with. He took her to the flat William had at Clarence House and left them to talk for half an hour."

Royal biographer Penny Junor noted that after the chat, Camilla emerged saying: "I need a drink."

Richard added: "Despite the obviously difficult circumstances, it's thought that William had been friendly and Camilla had been sensitive about his feelings they went on to meet again for lunch a few days later and enjoyed tea together too."

Camilla has since become a significant figure in William's life, even offering valuable advice to Kate Middleton.
