People baffled over quiz question that only 15% of population can solve

A maths brainteaser shared on TikTok has left viewers stumped as they couldn't agree on the answer - and many were left 'fuming' when the solution was revealed

A brainteaser featured on the Australian TV quiz show 'The 1% Club' has been baffling folks online, with claims that only '15% of the world's population can solve' it.

The conundrum was posed by host Jim Jefferies, who challenges his 100 contestants with questions that require 'logic and common sense'. From straightforward queries solved by 90% of Australians to the toughest nuts that only 1% can crack, the tension builds as contestants vie for the $100,000 jackpot.

Despite the varied difficulty, one particular riddle has left many viewers stumped: "Frodo has forgotten his hotel room number. All he remembers is that it has at least one 9. If the hotel has room numbers from 1 to 100, how many might be Frodo's? ".

Faced with a mere 30 seconds to respond, many viewers at home conceded. One defeated TikToker confessed in the comments: "I didn't say 9 because I assumed it had more than one number as it said at least one 9." Another user admitted: "Me confidently saying 10 and forgetting everything between 90 and 98."

A third participant shared their struggle: "I counted one more and got 20. I can't focus with that guy." And yet another commenter pondered: "I thought 1 because he only has 1 room." Furthering the debate, another added: "9 shouldn't count since the wording indicates there are at least 2 numbers in his room."

Wrapping up the discussion, one more user remarked: "I didn't count 99 because I thought they literally meant only "one" nine could be in the answer." In the end, the host disclosed the correct tally was 19 - explaining that the possible room numbers were 9, 19, 29, 39, 49, 59, 69, 79, 89 and the sequence from 90 to 99.
