Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's aspirations to become a top-tier power couple in the US are faltering, a royal commentator has claimed.

On the Palace Confidential podcast, Richard Eden, Daily Mail Diary editor, remarked that there seems to be a shift in the Sussexes' approach, with Meghan and Harry "are separating in terms of their their strategies". He observed that initially, the pair were marketed as a dynamic duo akin to the Clooneys or Obamas, but this image is now under review.

Eden added: "When they recorded their first podcast, it was very much them together. It was the pilot episode and that was going to be the pattern: them together. We saw that again on the Netflix series, but for whatever reason whether it's Megan or it's Harry they've decided that's not the way to go."

The couple appears to be pursuing their Netflix commitments through individual projects. Meghan is working on a cooking and lifestyle show set to air next year, while Harry has produced a programme about polo for Netflix.

According to Eden, their dream of being an A-list power couple "lies in tatters," highlighting that Meghan was notably absent from Harry's recent New York City visit. Royal author and broadcaster Victoria Murphy concurred, noting Meghan's drive for business ventures contrasts with Harry's seemingly nostalgic gaze towards his royal heritage, reports the Express.

She stated: "What Harry seems to be doing is focusing on philanthropy. His most successful projects, the ones that resonate the most with people are the ones that were set up when he was a working royal so the Invictus games his patronage of Wellchild for example.."

In contrast, Victoria noted that "Meghan seems to be more business-focused now". The Duchess has been dedicating a significant amount of time to her American Riviera Orchard lifestyle brand, which has encountered some last-minute hitches due to her choice of name, echoing the couple's brief stint as "Sussex Royal".

Richard's colleague Charlotte Griffiths chimed in, revealing that her Royal insiders have informed her that Harry is "looking backwards to the peak Harry era", a time when his popularity soared thanks to philanthropic endeavours such as the Sentebale charity and the Invictus games.

She commented: "We loved him then. He was seen holding African children in his arms, opening hospitals and schools, raising millions and millions for Africa. That was 'Peak Harry,' and I think he's going through a period of reflection at the moment."

This desire to revisit his triumphs will see him returning to the UK this week, where he'll be the guest of honour at the annual WellChild awards, while Meghan stays put in Montecito.
